Philips BDP3000 Blue Ray Player Review
Philips BDP3000 blue ray player is one of those budget models aimed for the economic users! Priced at a very affordable rate, this model has a unique and sleek design that is really eye catching. Well, if there is a compromise in price then it definitely means that some features have also been compromised. Blue ray players have already got well established among the people today, and this player developed by the renowned organization Philips is also trying to catch the eyes and hearts of the money saving people. Every blue ray player tries to exhibit the features in a different and higher aspect. Let us see elaborately how uniquely and excellently Philips has developed this BDP3000 blue ray player.
Design:
The package of the simple and stunning blue ray player contains the player, Remote control, two batteries, User Manual, Quick start guide and the Product Registration card. The design of the Philips BDP3000/05 is really good. The control buttons and the disc tray are well laid out. The player as such is purely black similar to most of the blue ray players out in the market. There is uniqueness in the design of the control buttons. At the left corner in the front, there is a power button followed by the disc tray. Next to the disc tray is the Pause button. The LCD Display follows this Pause button and the screen displays the commands neatly and precisely. Two more control buttons, the play and the stop, are positioned at the right corner on the front side. Basically, the player has been given a glossy finish that gives a richer look to it. The product weighs nearly 3 Kg and the dimensions of the width, height and depth are 435 x 58 x 227 mm respectively.
Remote Control:
The remote control of the BDP3000 player is as normal as any remote control available these days. The buttons are neatly laid out and do not give any trouble during operation. There is a home button that helps the stranded users to get back to their home menu screen.
Features:
Absence of on-board memory:
As a profile 2.0 player, it allows the users to access the BD Live contents. In that case, there should be an on-board storage of minimum 1GB to store those contents. But unfortunately, Philips has removed the local storage memory to make it cost effective. This is disappointing. But then the USB at the back side of the player can be used to store the BD live contents.
USB Port:
A single USB 2.0 port can be found on flipping back the player. This USB port can be used to store the BD Live contents. Since there is no local storage memory as said earlier, this USB port is the only storage media available. This Philips BDP3000 Blu Ray player could not play the audio stored in the USB drives earlier, which meant that, to listen to the songs one has to actually use it only in the CD or DVD media. But then, fortunately a firmware update can make the player play the contents of the drives.
Quick Start:
In the present scenario, everybody prefers everything to be done in just a second. The quick start technology loads the player in few seconds reducing the time of waiting. The power consumption in quick start mode is slightly high though.
Old DVDs at HD:
If you are tired of watching the old DVDs in SD, then BDP3000 Blu-Ray Disc Player has a solution for it! Simply insert those DVDs or CDs in the disc tray and you can watch them in HD scale. This is because of the ability of the BDP3000 to convert the ordinary DVDs to the best possible range by upscaling.
24 fps:
The users can now watch the movies at 24 frames per second, which is excellent because the scenes are at their best when they are scanned at 24 fps. This means that the watchers get the director’s idea of a scene and it comes out on-screen as it was intended to be.
Parental Control:
The parental control system helps the parents to continuously scrutinize their children and stop them from using the blue ray player beyond certain limits. Even if it had not been in-built, they could have at least made facilities to buy a dongle as an accessory to use wireless connectivity. But once again, because of no demand for more money, the users can not demand for a wireless connection. Ethernet is more than enough for accessing the BD Live contents, for shopping on-line and many other exciting activities.
Easylink:
Easylink links the home products of Philips that are easy link enabled. This system is similar to the Bravia sync of Sony. The users can link all the easy link products by using one single remote. Less work more gain!
Performance:
This BDP3000 blue ray DVD player is perfection personified when it comes to the performance in the video and audio output area. This blue ray player caters to the basic needs and provides them in a satisfying way. But more than that, does it offer any thing extra? We doubt so. But the users can not blame the player because given a reduction in the cost, they can not ask for more.
Power:
The power consumption during the normal mode of operation is 25 W which is acceptable for a blue ray player of lesser cost. There is always power saving methods available. So during the stand by mode, the player consumes only 0.5 W which is pretty good.
Warranty:
The BDP3000 has the warranty coverage for nearly 1 year.

This model truly and clearly depicts the company’s slogan “Sense and Simplicity”. Designed in a simple way, the player is sensible in that it manages all the basic functions really well. But then, simplicity in the field of performance is not acceptable. For a budget blue ray player, this BDP3000 is fine. The interface is user friendly and the audio and video performances are good. This player would be a good choice for the contented users who are simply interested in watching their favorite shows or movies in HD at a lower cost, make optimum use of the BD Live contents and do not expect anything more!
